Which day trip from Prague is best if we have one day?
Choose Kutná Hora for history and the Bone Church, Karlštejn for a castle close to Prague, or Český Krumlov if you do not mind a long day for the most beautiful small town in the country. Terezín is a moving choice for twentieth-century history, and Karlovy Vary is ideal for an easy, flat day.
How far are Český Krumlov, Kutná Hora and Karlovy Vary from Prague?
Kutná Hora is about 80 km from Prague, roughly 70 minutes by car. Karlovy Vary is about 130 km away, just under two hours. Český Krumlov is about 170 km away, around two and a half hours each way, so it is a long day or a good reason to stay one night.
Can we combine two destinations in one day?
Yes, when they lie in the same direction. Good pairs are Karlštejn with Konopiště, Terezín with the nearby town of Litoměřice, and Český Krumlov with Hluboká Castle or České Budějovice. Combining two places in different directions makes the day too long, and we tell you honestly when a plan does not work.
Do we need passports for Dresden or Vienna?
Yes, carry them. Germany and Austria are in the Schengen area with the Czech Republic, but border checks can take place, so every traveller needs a valid passport (EU, EEA and Swiss citizens may use a national identity card). Visitors who need a Schengen visa must hold one that is valid for these countries too.
Are entrance fees included on day trips?
Entrance fees are listed separately in your quote, so you decide which sites to enter. We book timed tickets in advance where needed, for example for Český Krumlov Castle or the Chapel of the Holy Cross at Karlštejn, and your guide or driver handles them on the day.
What time do day trips start and end?
Because every trip is private, you choose the start time. Most guests leave their hotel between 8:00 and 9:00. Half-day trips such as Karlštejn or Konopiště return in the early afternoon, and full days such as Český Krumlov or Dresden return in the early evening.
