Jewish Museum in Prague marks 120 years with a show from 13 November
Published

The Jewish Museum in Prague, founded in 1906, is marking its 120th anniversary with an exhibition titled "The Jewish Museum: 120 Years", which the museum itself names as the main event of its jubilee year. According to museum director Pavla Niklová, the exhibition opens on 13 November 2026 in the historic building of the National Museum on Wenceslas Square. It brings together around a hundred authentic and rare objects from the museum's collection, presenting Jewish history and culture as part of the history of the Czech lands. The most valuable piece on show is the Třebíč machzor, a Jewish prayer book from the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries. The display also includes a curtain from the Baroque Cigánová Synagogue in Prague, which was demolished during the redevelopment of Josefov in the early 20th century.
What it means for your trip
- A reason to add the National Museum to your Prague itinerary this November, alongside its permanent collections.
- The exhibition is separate from the Jewish Museum's own sites in Josefov (the synagogues and the Old Jewish Cemetery), so check opening hours for each before you go.
- Combine it with Josefov. If the history of Prague's Jewish community interests you, our Jewish Quarter private tour covers the synagogues and the Old Jewish Cemetery with a licensed guide.
- Plan ahead for November, when days are shorter and many sights close earlier; see best time to visit Prague for the month's weather and crowds.
