Prague's PID Lítačka transport app: a new version replaces it from 2027

PID Lítačka, the app used to buy tickets for Prague's metro, trams and buses, is being rebuilt as a new version called PID Lítačka 2.0. The city company Operátor ICT is developing it together with the Central Bohemian Region, and officials have said the launch is planned for 1 January 2027, delivered as an update to the existing app rather than a separate download. The current app is expected to keep working normally until the new version takes over.

What it means for your trip

  • Nothing changes for now: keep using the current PID Lítačka app to buy Prague public transport tickets as usual.
  • Update in place: the new version is planned to arrive as an update to the app already on your phone, not a new app to install separately.
  • Watch the date if you travel over New Year: the switch is planned for around 1 January 2027, so visitors in Prague at that time may see the app change during their stay.
  • New features planned: reports describe a tool that works out the cheapest ticket for a journey after it ends, buying several tickets at once, and a dark mode.
  • Other tickets unaffected: paper tickets and tickets from station vending machines are a separate system and are not changed by the app update.

If you would rather not deal with ticket apps at all, our guide to getting from Prague airport to the city centre compares public transport with a private transfer, and we arrange airport transfers with meet and greet included.
