Prague taxis: new maximum fares since 1 August 2026

Since 1 August 2026, metered taxis in Prague may charge at most 70 CZK to board, 42 CZK per kilometre and 7 CZK per minute of waiting. Prague City Hall set the new caps in price decision No. 1/2026 of 7 May 2026. Until then the limits were 60 CZK to board and 36 CZK per kilometre. The per-kilometre cap had not changed since 2020, and waiting stays at 7 CZK a minute.

What it means for your trip

• Which rides: the caps apply to taxis that must use a taximeter, on rides that start and end in Prague. A ride to or from a place outside the city is not covered.
• No extras: the maximum prices are final and include VAT. No surcharge may be added.
• Waiting: it can be charged when the taxi is held up, for example at traffic lights or in heavy traffic, but not for a breakdown.
• A quick check: a 5 km ride with 5 minutes stuck in traffic may cost at most 315 CZK (70 + 5 × 42 + 5 × 7).
• Apps are different: rides booked in an app such as Uber or Bolt, where you agree the price before the ride, are not covered by the caps. The price you accepted in the app applies.
• Keep the receipt: ask for the printed receipt from the taximeter at the end of a metered ride.
