Prague tram 23: new route since 19 September 2026
Published

Prague's nostalgic tram line 23, the heritage route that links Prague Castle with the city centre, has run a new course since Saturday 19 September 2026. The Prague Integrated Transport authority changed the route after the Prague 2 district objected to two tram lines sharing the Zvonařka turning loop in Vinohrady on a long-term basis, warning of extra noise for residents there. Since 19 September 2026, only tram line 13 uses the Zvonařka loop. Beyond Národní třída, line 23 now turns onto Vodičkova street and continues via Wenceslas Square (Václavské náměstí) and Jindřišská to Masarykovo nádraží, where it terminates at the Bílá labuť stop, instead of carrying on toward Zvonařka as before. The Prague 2 district says the new arrangement is planned to run until 28 June 2027.
What it means for your trip
- The castle section is unchanged. Tram 23 still runs from Královka through Malovanka, Pohořelec and Brusnice to Pražský hrad (Prague Castle) and on to Malostranská and Malostranské náměstí, exactly as before.
- A different route through the centre. After Újezd and the National Theatre (Národní divadlo), the tram now heads up Vodičkova street to Wenceslas Square and Masarykovo nádraží instead of continuing south toward Zvonařka.
- New option for the end of your ride. The Bílá labuť terminus sits close to Wenceslas Square and Masarykovo nádraží, so you can now take tram 23 directly between Prague Castle and that part of the New Town.
- Still the vintage tram. Line 23 is operated with historic T3 trams and takes standard PID tickets, so any valid Prague public transport ticket or travel card is accepted on board.
