About this tour
Few visitors know that Prague grows its own wine. Vineyards climb the slope below Prague Castle, the hillside above the Troja Chateau and a park in Vinohrady, a district named after the vines that once covered it. This tour visits them by car, with tastings along the way and a driver, so everyone in the group can taste.
Wine with a view
The St Wenceslas vineyard below the castle is linked by legend to the patron saint of Bohemia and is one of the oldest vineyards in the country. St Clare's vineyard in Troja lies above the Troja Chateau, with a view over the river valley. The Grébovka vineyard in Vinohrady is part of a romantic park with a wooden wine pavilion.
Most Czech wine comes from Moravia, in the south-east of the country, and the tasting shows how different it is from the wine regions you may know: fresh whites such as Grüner Veltliner and Riesling, aromatic Pálava, and red Frankovka and Svatovavřinecké.
The right season
The vineyards open for visitors from spring to autumn, and September brings the harvest and burčák, the young wine that Czechs wait for all year. In winter the tour moves indoors, to wine cellars and wine bars in the city.

Yes. Wine has been grown on the slopes of Prague since the Middle Ages, and Charles IV had vineyards planted around the city in the fourteenth century. A few of them still produce wine today.
Where does most Czech wine come from?
From Moravia, in the south-east of the country. Bohemia, around Prague, is a much smaller region, and the tasting shows wines from both.
