Team building in and around Prague: 20 ideas by team size

Team building does not have to mean a ropes course and a tug of war. In and around Prague you will find formats that bring people together naturally: cooking together, a game in the lanes of the Old Town, a cruise on the Vltava or a trip to a castle. We have sorted the ideas below by team size, because what works for ten people does not work for two hundred.

Start with the goal, not the activity

Before you choose an activity, be clear about why you are holding the event. Do you want to thank people for a year's work, bring new colleagues together, welcome a team from another branch or reward your sales staff? The goal decides the format: a competition, a shared experience or a relaxed dinner. And think of everyone, including colleagues who do not drink alcohol, find walking difficult or do not speak the main language of the event. Good team building leaves nobody feeling left out.

Small teams (up to 15 people)

1. Czech cooking class. Led by a chef, the team cooks a menu and then eats it together. It works just as well for colleagues from abroad who want to taste Czech food.
2. Beer tasting with an expert. A beer workshop in a brewery, where you learn how beer is brewed and taste several styles. For drivers and non-drinkers, an alcohol-free option is part of the tasting.
3. Private tour of Prague with challenges. A licensed guide takes the team around Prague Castle and the Old Town, setting tasks and quiz questions along the way.
4. Tasting dinner in a private room. A thank-you instead of an activity: a dinner of several courses in private, where people can talk in peace.
5. Opera or a concert. For example at the Estates Theatre, where Mozart's Don Giovanni had its premiere in 1787. We arrange tickets so that the whole group sits together.
6. Kutná Hora and its silver mine. A trip about 1 hour 10 minutes by car from Prague, with a tour of a medieval mine. Note that the narrow passages are not suitable for anyone with claustrophobia.
7. An active day in Bohemian Switzerland. A national park with sandstone rocks and Pravčická brána, the largest natural sandstone arch in Europe. Some trails stayed closed for a long time after the fire in 2022, so we check which routes are open before planning.

Medium-sized teams (15 to 50 people)

8. City game in the Old Town. Teams complete tasks in the lanes of the historic centre and look for answers in places most people walk past without noticing.
9. A boat on the Vltava with dinner. A boat just for your group, with the menu and music of your choice and a view of the illuminated castle.
10. Two castles in a day. Karlštejn in the morning, Konopiště château in the afternoon. Karlštejn is about 35 km from Prague, around 45 minutes by car, and Konopiště about 50 km.
11. Plzeň and the brewery. Pilsner-style beer was first brewed here in 1842. The brewery tour ends in the historic cellars with unfiltered beer straight from the barrel.
12. Karlovy Vary. Colonnades, hot springs, the Becherovka museum or the Moser glass factory. An easy day, even for colleagues who would rather not walk much.
13. An ice hockey match. Ice hockey is the most popular sport in the Czech Republic, and a match during the season is an experience even for those who do not know the rules.
14. Prague in the evening. A guided walk at dusk, a river cruise and dinner. A relaxed format for teams who mainly want to meet and talk.

Large groups (50 people or more)

15. Gala evening in a historic hall. A palace or a historic hall, catering, music and a programme. A festive setting for an annual gathering or an awards ceremony.
16. A boat for the whole company. For large companies we arrange a bigger boat, or several boats at once, with one shared programme on board.
17. Rotating stations. Participants split into groups that take turns at different stations, such as cooking, a beer workshop and a city game. In the evening everyone meets for dinner together.
18. Coach trip with several guides. Kutná Hora or Karlštejn for the whole company, with a guide for each group of about 20 to 25 people, so everyone can hear and ask questions.
19. Company day. A team city game in the morning, lunch in a brewery restaurant and a boat with dinner in the evening. A full day with one plan and one transport arrangement.
20. A programme for colleagues from abroad. When an international team gets together in Prague, add an airport meet and greet, a hotel and a tour of the city. Your guests then feel welcome before the event itself has even started.

Practical tips

• Transport. Coaches carrying groups may not enter the historic centre and stop only at designated coach stops, for up to 15 minutes. Allow for a short walk to your destination.
• Weather. For outdoor activities, always have an indoor alternative.
• Language. Our licensed guides work in English, Spanish and Turkish, and in other languages depending on availability. We confirm the language for your specific date.
• Alcohol. Every tasting should come with an alcohol-free option and a ride back after the event.
• Timing. Spring, autumn and December are the busiest times, so start planning two to six months ahead.
• Mobility. For trips and games, find out in advance whether anyone in the team has limited mobility, and adapt the route accordingly.

How much time to allow

Getting from place to place takes longer than it seems. With a large group, boarding the coaches, the cloakroom and getting everyone seated for dinner all take time, and each of these moments multiplies with the number of people. So leave some slack between the parts of the programme and do not overfill the day: two well-prepared activities beat five rushed ones. The same applies to trips outside Prague. Even Karlštejn, only about 45 minutes away and otherwise easy to see in half a day, can quickly run long with a large group touring the castle in turns.

Sample: a company day in Kutná Hora

This is what a full-day trip for a team of about forty people can look like:

• 9:00 Departure by coach from the office or hotel.
• 10:15 The Sedlec Ossuary and the cathedral with guides, with the team split into two groups.
• 11:30 St Barbara's Church.
• 12:45 Lunch with a set menu in the old town.
• 14:00 The Italian Court or the medieval mine of the Czech Silver Museum, depending on interest.
• 15:30 Departure for Prague, arriving around 16:30, with dinner together in the evening if you wish.

The two groups swap places at each stop, so nobody waits in a queue and everyone hears their own guide.

A quote without surprises

We do not publish prices, because every event is different. Whoever you work with, always ask for an itemised quote that shows transport, guides, tickets, food, drinks and the people running the activities, such as a chef or an instructor, separately. Also ask by when the final number of participants must be confirmed and what each supplier's cancellation terms are.
