Prague Castle's winter opening hours start on 1 November 2026

Prague Castle moves to its winter opening hours from Sunday 1 November 2026. According to the castle's official visitor site, hrad.cz, the historic buildings open to the public, St Vitus Cathedral, the Old Royal Palace, St George's Basilica, Golden Lane with the Daliborka Tower, and the Picture Gallery, close at 16:00 instead of the summer closing time of 17:00. Prague City Tourism confirms the same winter schedule, which runs until 31 March 2027. The castle's courtyards stay open daily from 6:00 to 22:00 all year, free of charge, so a walk through the grounds is still possible after the ticketed buildings close.

What it means for your trip

• Historic buildings close an hour earlier. From 1 November 2026, the Old Royal Palace, St George's Basilica, Golden Lane and the Picture Gallery are open 9:00 to 16:00, down from 9:00 to 17:00 in the April to October season.
• St Vitus Cathedral keeps its own hours. Monday to Saturday 9:00 to 16:00, Sunday 12:00 to 16:00, with last entry at 15:40 every day.
• Plan an earlier visit. With a 16:00 closing time, arriving by early afternoon leaves more time to see the interiors before they shut.
• The courtyards stay open later. You can still walk through the castle grounds and past the cathedral's exterior until 22:00, even after the interiors close.
• The winter schedule lasts through the Christmas season, until 31 March 2027.
