St Martin's Day in Prague 2026: Charles Bridge procession and young wine
Published

St Martin's Day on 11 November is when Czechs taste the year's first young wine, sold as Svatomartinské, and sit down to roast goose. In Prague two dated events mark it in 2026. On Wednesday 11 November 2026 the Charles Bridge Museum holds its St Martin on Charles Bridge celebration: according to Prague City Tourism, St Martin rides a white horse, dressed as a Roman soldier, from the 11th pillar of Charles Bridge at 11:11, followed by a cart full of snow. The procession crosses to Křižovnické náměstí, where the first snow is handed to the mayor of Prague and a St Martin's market with seasonal specialities and wines opens.
On Saturday 14 November 2026, from 10:00 to 20:00, the association Archetyp holds its St Martin's festival on the Náplavka, Rašínovo nábřeží: young wines from Moravia and Bohemia, roast goose, sauerkraut, other goose dishes and live music.
What it means for your trip
- 11 November is a Wednesday: the Charles Bridge procession starts at 11:11, so plan the morning in the Old Town around it.
- Tasting works with a glass: on the Náplavka you drink only from glasses. The organiser sells a tasting set with a glass, a tasting card listing the winemakers and a pencil for 150 CZK on site; a glass alone is 100 CZK, or you can bring your own.
- Each winery sets its prices: the price of a tasting sample depends on the winemaker.
- Programmes can change: check the organisers' pages listed below shortly before you go.
If you would like to go further into Czech wine, the licensed guides we work with lead a Prague vineyards and wine tasting tour, and our guide to Czech food to try in Prague covers dishes beyond the goose.
